NKT AT INNOTRANS 2018 IN BERLIN

InnoTrans, the world’s leading trade fair for transport engineering, is taking place in Berlin on September 18–21, 2018. Taking place every two years, the trade fair is split into five trade sectors: Railway Technology, Railway Infrastructure, Public Transport, Interiors und Tunnel Construction. You can find us in Hall 22 at Stand 302, from 10am to 6pm daily. We look forward to your visit.

The benefits of aluminum cables compared to traditional copper are clear: The weight is 30% reduced, the price is 30% less and telecom carriers face a lower risk of theft because of a scrap value that is insignificant compared to copper.

Reducing weight by 30% not only relaxes the problem of exceeding tower load substantially but also makes handling of material on site as well as shipping much easier.

In today‘s telecom cables, the price of copper can consist of 75% of the cable price, with insulating materials having a minimal influence on the final price. NKT Telecom Cables are Adopting CPR

CPR is a common classification of fire properties that came into force in July 2017. It is a regulatory requirement in Europe for cables used in buildings. There has been discussion whether CPR is applicable to telecom cables. On the one hand, a telecom cable is not part of the building construction and therefore not part of the regulations. On the other hand, any industry cable inside a building is affected and must follow CPR.

Because of this discussion, the market is now going for CPR as a requirement for all telecom cables inside buildings, for safety reasons and to simplify and save time. This avoids potential discussions with property owners and simplifies installation. Therefore, NKT Telecom cables already comply to CPR.

Being a global energy cable manufacturer with a wide variety of different cables, we also have several production plants all over Europe at our disposal. This includes the Czech Republic, Poland, Denmark, Norway and Germany. NKT is also physically present in North America with a newly opened subsidiary and warehouse in Dallas, Texas, to support the growing US market. Our production facility for telecom energy cables is located in Falun, Sweden. We have been operational for 40 years and have produced over 400,000 km of telecom cables that have been used in over 160 countries.

Where it started
The telecom journey started with energy cables for fixed line before NMT and then GSM. While the technologies improved towards 3G (WCDMA), 4G (LTE) and now 5G, so have the energy cables that power them. This is exemplified by halogen-free cables which NKT pioneered 30 years ago in the telecom industry which has since become the standard. Today we are leading the telecom energy cable development by introducing new aluminum cables to power the next generation antennas and conforming to the CPR classification. Due to our experience and continuous improvement we are the globally preferred supplier to Ericsson and approved by Nokia in US.
